Recently, some of the Pitaya Foods team traveled to Vietnam for a trip that was about so much more than a new product launch.

We went to see where some of the superfruits we love are grown, and to spend time with the farmers and partners who help bring them to life.

Ahead of the launch of our Tropical Smoothie Blend at Sam’s Club, we traveled deep into the places where dragon fruit, passion fruit, mango, and pineapple are grown. We walked the farms, met the people we work alongside, visited the production lines where the fruit is prepared and packed, and (of course) ate our way through the incredible food and culture of Vietnam.

Behind every smoothie is a journey. And this one starts in Vietnam.

Why We Went

It’s easy to look at a bag of frozen fruit and see, well… frozen fruit. But there’s a bit more to it.

Our Tropical Smoothie Blend brings together four vibrant superfruits - dragon fruit, passion fruit, mango, and pineapple - in one perfectly balanced blend. And creating that blend starts long before the fruit ever reaches the freezer aisle in your favorite grocery store.

So, ahead of our Sam’s Club launch, our team packed our bags and headed to Vietnam to spend time with our farming partners, visit the farms where our fruit begins, see the production process firsthand, and follow the journey our fruit takes before it becomes part of your morning smoothie.

Into The Fields

One of the most memorable parts of the trip was getting out into the fields where our fruit begins.

We visited farms that supply the fruit we use in our products, walked among rows of tropical fruit, saw the growing conditions firsthand, and spent time with the farmers who dedicate their expertise to growing the crops that eventually make their way around the world.

There’s something different about standing in the fields where the fruit you know and love begins.

You see the fruit differently.

You notice the care that goes into growing it. You understand the importance of timing. And you realize just how much knowledge goes into knowing when a piece of fruit is ready to be picked.

For us, these relationships are an important part of how we bring superfruits from farm to freezer.

Picked at Peak. Frozen at Its Best.

So, what actually happens between the farm and your smoothie?

A lot less complicated than you might think.

Our fruit is picked when it reaches peak ripeness - when it has developed the flavor, color, and qualities we’re looking for. From there, it’s quickly frozen to lock in that fresh flavor and the fruit’s nutrients.

There’s no need to turn it into something else.

It’s simply fruit, frozen at its best.

We got to see this process firsthand during our visit to the production facility, where the fruit moves through the packing process before becoming the finished blends you find in stores.

And seeing it all happen in person was pretty incredible.

Fruit that had been growing in the fields we had just visited was now moving through the facility, being prepared for its next destination: your freezer.

A Taste of Vietnam

Of course, we couldn’t visit Vietnam without experiencing the food and culture that make the country so special.

From steaming bowls of pho and fresh spring rolls to bánh mì, tropical fruit, and Vietnamese coffee, every meal seemed to tell its own story.

And after spending our days seeing where some of these fruits grow, experiencing them in the country where they’re grown made the trip feel even more full-circle.

Vietnam is a country full of color, flavor, and connection - and we’re grateful we got to experience it beyond the fields and facilities.

From Vietnam to Sam’s Club

After seeing the farms, spending time with our partners, and watching the fruit move through the production process, the launch of our Tropical Smoothie Blend at Sam’s Club feels a little different.

Because now, when we see that bag, we see the journey behind it.

We see the dragon fruit growing in the fields. The passion fruit at peak ripeness. The mangoes and pineapples ready to be picked. The teams carefully freezing and packing each fruit.

And eventually, that bag making its way into your freezer.

That’s the part of food you don’t always get to see. We wanted to share it with you.
